Daddy Daughter Camping

Tuesday, September 1st, 2015

Quick overnight with the girls. Dinner in Middlebury, then up the mountain to Silver Lake NF campground. Walk in at dusk, setup camp, snack, sleep.

In the morning we ate some snacks (I needed coffee) and then explored around the campground and the dam, then hiked out. The girls carried their bags in ~3/4 mile. Lina wasn’t interested in carrying out on the second day, so dad carried her bag up the trail. We had proper, second breakfast in Middlebury, before heading home.

Good fun, and we have another trip planned before it gets too cold.

Enjoying the last weekend before school starts. Exploring Northshore Beach in BTV with the girls.

We wandered the beach the the girls moved into 2 of the driftwood shelters people have made on the beach. Temps were perfect, the water cool on the toes, and the girls a delight to explore with.

Mellow weekend. Farmer’s Market, morning rides, flowers in bloom, some industrious kids up in the woods, flood damage, more rain, gray skies, good fun.

Of the puddle rider and blueberry theif…

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011

I was within minutes of the tornado in western Massachusetts last week. Hail on the roof of the rental car, strong winds, thunder, lightning, etc. Head over to NASA to read more details.

Been a blur since the 400k. No riding, lots of work, lots of driving. Things are settling down, and life will return to some normalcy here, hopefully. Garden expansion is complete. Apple and pear trees planted and doing well. Blueberry, raspberry, and blackberry bushes planted. Ava has been poaching nearly ripe blueberries all week…

Been to MA and NH for work. Dropped by a few projects in the Boston area to check on progress, and then took off for the Berkshires to teach at the Heartwood School. 3 days of 3d modeling, reconnecting with friends, and enjoying the mountains. The Fargo made the trip with me – but some design work for a project overseas that I was honored to work on took some late nights… so no riding, just time pushing pixels around.

Looking forward to a return to life in northern Vermont. Until a little one decides to make an appearance…

The little one took a full on downhill wreck on the bike path this weekend. Part lack of experience going fast, part helpful stranger trying to catch her. She freaked out turning hard to evade the guy who stepped into her path trying to slow her down and ended up with a skinned knee and some scratches on her hands. Lots of crying, but resumed the running and playing with a friend withing 15 minutes.

I almost cried when I picked her bike up – I remember the first time my bike broke when I was a kid – I was devastated. I’m thinking about making a new bar out of a piece of maple… I can unbolt the existing bar and trace it. I’ll just have to get creative with the bar ends.

First rainbow of the spring. First bike ride of the spring.
