Cleveland

Tuesday, January 31st, 2012

Visited the Cleveland, Ohio area with family for the first time in quite awhile. Wish I had more time to wander my old stomping grounds – I could spend days photographing the post industrial landscape. I snapped 2 different panorama shots, and stitched them with Hugin. These are quick and dirty (and noisy). Still learning the new camera, and I need to take more time to set up – these were both taken when family was occupied for a few minutes. (click for big)

Skyline lost in fog, Innerbelt bridge and the industrial flats: (I’ve climbed several of those railroad lift bridges in college, at night…)

Recent Snaps

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011

Been a whirlwind. The little one had a birthday. Lots of travel for work – Western NY, ME, NH, MA, CT, Washington DC. Then a botched attempt to get to a wedding in San Diego that ended (due to airline issues) with us staying in Manhattan for the night and driving back to Burlington.

I wanted to write a longer post about our recent trip to Montreal… in lieu of the post never happening – here are some snaps from a bike friendly big city.

Work and Ride

The IF at the top of the drive...

I spent three days in the Berkshires teaching at the Heartwood School. I managed two short rides to explore the local dirt. Lots of steep climbing on gravel and sand and loose dirt. I was wishing for wider tires as I was running the 28s with the Honjo’s. Wanted to get out more – but it was hard to cram a bit of catching up with friends, teaching, and riding into the time I had. I’d love to get back…

Zoo and Bridge

Misty morning and puddle jumping and sitting.

Misty morning and puddle jumping and sitting.

Spent the day out and about in SFO. Enjoyed the Zoo, for the most part. Plenty of exhibits closed as I’d guess were still early in the season. Food was terrible at the Lemur Cafe… but today is the 5th of May so Ava and I are headed out for a Mexican feast just up the road from the hotel.

Impressive... and beautiful.

BTV to EWR to SFO

No bike, but hopefully the little one and I will get a good dose of the BART. We’re in San Francisco all week so mom can participate in client meetings. I’ll keep up with my clients with my not so smart phone and the laptop – and Ava and I will play outside.

SketchUp in New Hampshire

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

The view from our stay in New Hampshire – atop a hill on a dirt road in what felt like the middle of nowhere. I taught a 2 day SketchUp class in the tiny town of Tamworth to a few timber framers, builders, and designers. We focused on general model building and then tightened in on timber specific joinery techniques. The scenery and the students were magnificent…

I’ll be teaching at Heartwood this May, and hopefully I’ll secure a spot at the TF Guild’s Eastern Conference.

Montreal

Saturday, November 1st, 2008

Spent the week in Montreal. Lots of bikes. Lots of bike infrastructure. Need to get back with more focus on photographing the city…

Many ‘cycle tracks’ along side the main boulevards and streets – going both north / south and east west. Plenty of ‘bike lanes’ on minor streets – complete with sharrows near intersections or zones where cars and bikes need to blend. Lots of fixed gears, city bikes, and old 10 speeds.
