I scouted the entire 200k route last weekend, will try to ride the 114k route this weekend.
Most of the roads are in typical end of summer shape – mixes of smooth dirt, washboard, some rough stuff and chatter through the corners. There are plenty of random patches of surface changes – from packed dirt to loose gravel, and quite a few areas of washed out, tire sized ruts, mainly on the steeps. Only one stretch was closed due to downed trees, something I could have passed easily on a bike. A crew was already clearing the road, so one of the most scenic slices of road should be ready for us in a few weeks. All in, northern Vermont fared better than most of the state with the recent storms.
